about
On Friday, June 26th, The People recorded a brand new track LIVE with percussion by our brothers and sisters of the beautiful city we call home - Philadelphia.
This interactive experience broke down the performer-audience barrier and gave everyone at the performance a chance to be a part of a collective, musical whole.
Boy, oh boy does our city have rhythm!
lyrics
IGNITION feat. THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA
Mama told a story through the rhythm in her thighbones
Took a look of shame from the shadow dressed in rainbows
Said, ‘Don’t hold me back! Don’t play, son, not around here.’
Mama took her time and she taught a little lesson
The shadow dressed the floor now, steadily arrested
Said, ‘Don’t shut me out! No sir, not around here.’
She said, ‘I shall not burn, for anyone but me’
So Mama rollin’ hot with the better half of one ton
Musing to the concrete down the barrel of a gun
She said, ‘Don’t fuck with me! Don’t play, son, not around here.’
Mama hit the highway in a nasty red rag top
Arizona sun on the desert in the backdrop
Said, ‘Don’t shut me out! No sir, not around here.’
She said, ‘I shall not burn, for anyone but me’
